The Goring
Having studied law and history at Durham University, David moved to London in 1986 to work in restaurants. In 1989 he moved into the hotel world working with Robin Shepherd before starting at the end of the following year at The Goring. He started in 1990 as The Restaurant Manager and was quickly promoted through the ranks to the position of General Manager by George Goring. In 2006 he became The Managing Director of this iconic family hotel and has been in this role ever since. David believes passionately in promoting our industry, especially to those who are considering a career in hospitality. He was one of the first to be awarded a St Julian Scholarship and went on to be the Chairman of the St Julian Scholars. As well as the many awards the hotel has won under his leadership, David has been recognised in his own right including, Top General Manager worldwide, Luxury Travel Advisor, Manager of the Year 2010 Catey Awards and recently Outstanding Contribution Award, Hotel Catey Awards 2017.
