Behind the Scenes of Burgundy’s Wine Heritage

This year’s Master Innholders educational trip saw restaurant managers and sommeliers embark on a visit to Burgundy, France, for a two-day experience in partnership with Maison Louis Jadot to experience one of the region’s most prestigious and respected wine producers.

Created along with the generous support of Hatch Mansfield, Champagne Taittinger and Maison Louis Jadot, the educational trip provided attendees with a deeper understanding of the region’s offerings alongside practical insights for restaurant managers and sommeliers to bring back to their own hotels. Individuals were invited to apply earlier in the year, with applications accepted from hotels of all sizes across the UK.

The group selected for this year’s trip began their journey at Château des Jacques in Beaujolais, where they experienced an in-depth tour of the area alongside an educational session.

Later, in the heart of Beaune, attendees enjoyed an exclusive dinner at Couvent des Jacobins, Louis Jadot’s historic cellar, surrounded by a remarkable collection of wines that reflect centuries of heritage.

The following day included a guided tour and tasting at the Louis Jadot site in Beaune, followed by lunch with the Jadot team, which provided a perfect opportunity for discussion, inspiration, and connection among peers.

Speaking on her experience of the trip, Angele Fontaine, Breakfast Manager at Park Plaza Riverbank London, said:

“Burgundy is such a unique region. Small in size but rich in heritage, it truly represents one of France’s greatest treasures.

“This experience not only gave me the chance to connect with fellow restaurant managers and sommeliers, but it has also sparked ideas for how I can further improve and strengthen our restaurant operations and offerings back at Park Plaza Riverbank London.

“Thank you to the Master Innholders for this unique opportunity, and of course, a big thank you to Wallace Vincent MI, our wonderful travel guide!”

Overall, the trip showcased what these experiences are all about: learning, sharing and celebrating excellence in hospitality.
