Summer Update from the Chairman

It’s been a pleasant surprise that the British weather has decided to play nice these past few weeks as we welcome the summer season – with the warm and sunny days providing the perfect reason for people to enjoy the wonderful weather – with many ideally doing so at your own establishments!

Summer is always a special time of year in the Master Innholders calendar as it is a time when many of our great initiatives, particularly those that focus on nurturing young talent, come to fruition.

This summer is particularly special as not only do we have our annual GM of the Future award to help young people accelerate their hotel careers but we also have had the privilege to work with the Institute of Hospitality to launch our new world-class mentoring programme. This new joint initiative will allow hoteliers to undertake one-of-a-kind mentoring to help them reach their desired career goals under the mentor of some of the best and brightest in our industry today.

Developing the young talent in our industry is vital to our industry’s success, with the aim to ensure we are constantly challenging ourselves and looking at how we can continuously improve our offerings.

To that end, I am happy to announce the theme for the upcoming Hotel Leadership Conference 2024 – ‘Breaking Boundaries.’ Myself, Adrian Ellis MI FIH and the rest of the conference team feel the title best encapsulates our drive to grow young talent and look for new ways to innovate, which will also be a theme that will be echoed across the many talks we have planned across both days of the conference.

Elsewhere, we have been busy with our charity work, most notably with our partnership with this year’s Walk for Wellbeing. The event is a fantastic way not only for us all to take charge of our mental health and wellbeing but also to raise vital funds for Hospitalty Action, which will go towards supporting those most vulnerable in our industry. You can find more information about the event later in this email but I would strongly encourage all of you to take part in what will surely be a fantastic event and celebration of our great industry.

Finally, I wanted to congratulate all of those within our community that have gone on to win various awards this month. From the Acorn Awards to the Boutique Hotelier Power List, it’s been a real privilege to see so many of you being awarded for your hard work and dedication to our industry and across so many different areas as well.
